Research Overview
At the SAFEE Research Group, our vision is to advance the sustainability and performance of materials in extreme conditions through microstructure engineering. We develop a fundamental understanding of how microstructure governs the deformation mechanisms of structural materials, including Superalloys, Titanium alloys, Light alloys, and Steels, across a wide range of temperatures, strain rates, and extreme environments. To this end, we develop bespoke material-testing methods, and employ advanced characterisation techniques such as ECCI, HR-EBSD, and TEM. Furthermore, we actively collaborate with national laboratories, academic research groups, and industry partners to solve complex metallurgical challenges.
